The more in-depth version 😎

You are probably wondering how this actually works and why we’ve created this. We created because we want our Instagram photos to live on for future generations in the form of a permanent digital photo book. What happens 10 or 20 years from now? Or how about 50? We have no idea, and we think a blockchain protocol specifically designed for very long storage (think 100+ years) is an important place to put these “digital heirlooms”.When you upload an image or video, it goes to the Arweave blockchain and the permanent web, or “Permaweb”. Arweave’s purpose is to preserve any type of data for future generations (without a corporation in the middle!).We think this is an ideal place to store our amazing photos and videos, and it’s a lot simpler to manage than a bunch of hard-drives in the closet or something. Plus, after the first 50 free uploads it’s only 10 cents per image and you pay zero subscription fees. It’s pay once and store permanently. This is only possible with blockchain technology -> and if you’re not familiar with this, we get it (we’ve done the work for you here). To recap: all images/videos you upload publicly here will be visible online (and cannot be removed). All private (encrypted) files uploaded will require you to use your seed phrase to access if for some reason doesn’t exist in 50 years. The point is, by uploading to the Permaweb, you’re basically making the decision that you want to keep your digital stuff around for a very long time without the oversight of some corporation.Want more details still?
